Why you Should Choose QERS for your Eye Emergency

It can be stressful and overwhelming to navigate your options when experiencing an eye emergency. At Queensland Eye and Retina Specialists, our team of experienced ophthalmologists are able to provide care for a number of ocular emergencies. We understand that ocular emergencies require prompt recognition and appropriate treatment and timely management may improve visual outcomes. As such if you feel your patient or yourself are experiencing an ocular emergency, we strive to provide appointments as soon as possible.

For major ocular trauma, the most appropriate avenue of care is through the public hospital emergency system. In cases of major trauma, it is necessary to rule out life threatening injuries first, which can only be completed in hospital.

For other ocular emergencies, prompt examination by a trained ophthalmologist with specialist equipment is required. This is not always available at hospital emergency departments. At Queensland Eye and Retina Specialists, we have five extensively trained ophthalmologists able to provide emergency care. Our suite of diagnostic equipment allows for fast and accurate assessment and diagnosis of a wide range of emergency eye conditions.

Dr Sean Cheng and Dr Rajan Singh Patheja are both sub-specialist vitreoretinal surgeons, who can diagnose and treat a number of emergency conditions, including retinal detachments, retinal tear, vitreous hemorrhage and dislocated or subluxed lenses.

Our newest team member, Dr Shyalle Kahawita, is specialized in both surgical and medical treatment of glaucoma. This includes management of closed angle glaucoma, a sight threatening eye emergency.

Our reception and clinical teams are also extensively trained and experienced in recognizing signs of an eye emergency and triaging appropriately. Beyond this, they are also able to help with the logistics of your appointment. We also provide onsite parking at our centrally located clinic in Brisbane. If you spot or suspect eye emergency or if you are diagnosed with an emergency condition by your local optometrist, call 07-3555-5960 We endeavor to help.

We triage eye emergencies from optometrists and GPs daily from 8am to 8pm.
