Patients presenting with sudden visual symptoms may require urgent specialist assessment.
QERS provides emergency and after-hours retinal care for patients experiencing:

  •  Sudden flashes and floaters
  • Retinal tears and retinal detachment
  • Sudden vision loss
  • Acute changes in central vision
  • Urgent retinal vascular presentations

Our team works closely with referring optometrists and GPs to facilitate promptassessment, advanced retinal imaging and specialist management when required, ensuring timely access to care when it matters most.

After-Hours Eye Emergency Care

 

Queensland Eye & Retina Specialists provides after-hours contact for for doctors and optometrists for urgent ophthalmic surgical emergencies including:

  • Sudden vision loss
  • Retinal detachment
  • Endophthalmitis
  • Closed-globe trauma (confirmed penetrating eye injuries should be referred to a public hospital)
  • Acute onset posterior vitreous detachment with suspected or confirmed tear
  • Vision-threatening retinal haemorrhage or oedema of any cause

This line is staffed by a coordinator who will assist in managing your patient.

Availability:
Daily from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM, including weekends and public holidays.
